PRICING EXPLAINED
*This is the FOB (Free On Board) price: the price paid to the exporter before shipping, and which does not include shipping costs, weight loss (around 17%), storage and other charges. Ultimately, the FOB price represents the $ figure that stays in the coffee's country of origin, benefiting its producer, community, and beyond.
^This is the 'raw' price paid directly to the producer, and paid in the local currency for parchment coffee. The coffee is then milled and sorted before being placed in bags, ready for shipping.
ABOUT
Mynor inherited the farm when his father emigrated to the United States for financial reasons. It was a circumstance that, to put it simply, changed Mynor’s life.
At a young age, Mynor had dropped out of school. As such, he faced a major challenge in taking over the farm to preserve the family legacy. At the time, despite the land having been used for farming cattle and horses, he decided to use it to grow coffee, grains and lemons. To this day, the hard-working Mynor continues to work with cattle in the off-season months to support his operation with a second income.
Mynor’s farm, Los Cipreses, is located in the remote village of El Coyegual in San Antonio Huista in northern Guatemala, very close to Mexico. He manages all the work on the farm and hires local workers for certain activities such as fertilising, pruning and picking during harvest time.
In the last harvest, Mynor’s coffee improved a huge amount, especially with regards to the drying and fermentation processes. The focus for the next cycle is on longer fermentation times and the water used to process the coffee.
Mynor Edelmiro is currently participating in our import partners Grower’s Education Program, PECA. The program has given him access to personalised technical assistance as well as higher prices and quality premiums. Mynor says that while growing coffee was not easy, he’s proud that he has, with time, become an excellent farmer of this special product.
