About the grower - Luis Alfredo Bautista
Luis Alfredo Bautista produced this Typica lot on his 2-hectare farm, La Escuadra, in the rural district of Rusita near Miraflores, Boyacá. Like many producers in the Lengupá region, Luis farms on a small scale, focusing on quality and careful cultivation to bring out the best expression of his coffee. The combination of traditional varieties, mountain-grown conditions and dedicated farm management has helped producers like Luis earn increasing recognition for the quality emerging from this lesser-known Colombian origin.
About the region
The region’s steep mountainsides, cool nights and varied microclimates create ideal conditions for specialty coffee production, helping to develop the clarity, sweetness and vibrant fruit character that have made Lengupá an increasingly exciting origin.

Pricing Explained
FOB (Free on Board)
This is the FOB (Free On Board) price: the price paid to the exporter before international shipping, and which does not include shipping costs, weight loss (around 17%), storage and other charges. Ultimately, the FOB price represents the figure that stays in the coffee's country of origin, benefiting its producer, community, and beyond.
We publish FOB in both $USD/lb, the standard used for international coffee pricing, as well as $AUD/kg to make the price easier for Australian customers to understand.
Farm Gate Price
The Farm Gate price is the raw price paid directly to the producer, and paid in the local currency for parchment coffee. The coffee is then milled and sorted before being placed in bags, ready for shipping. In some cases, the Farm Gate price is marked as N/A. This is typically when we purchase the coffee through a co-op or a collective of producers.
Market Price
This is the global commodity coffee price at the time of purchase (known as the 'C Market') which is commonly used as a benchmark for coffee prices around the world.
Fairtrade Price
The Fairtrade price is the minimum set by Fairtrade International for certified coffee. It's a safety net when the market price is low, but it isn't designed to reward coffee producers for the quality of their coffee. We include it because it's a recognised industry benchmark, against which to compare the price that we paid.
About the coffee
This coffee was selected through the Concurso Regional de Taza Lengupá, an annual competition designed to showcase the region’s best coffees and connect producers with international markets. In 2026, 56 growers submitted microlots for blind evaluation by a professional tasting panel, with Luis’ coffee chosen among the standout entries. This is one of two competition lots we selected this year, alongside a larger regional blend sourced from participating producers. We look forward to continuing our support of both the competition and the growers behind it.
Colombia Luis Alfredo Bautista is a smooth and creamy coffee with sweet notes of milk chocolate, honeycomb, and soft raspberry.
