This transparency report shares the sourcing and pricing information behind our Ethiopia Mohammed Aba Nura coffee. As part of Rumble Coffee's Transparency Project, we publish what we paid for every coffee we sell, as well as key information about the producer or producer group, farm, and the coffee itself.
About this coffee
From his 35.7-hectare farm at 2000-2100 MASL in Ethiopia’s west, Mohammed Aba Nura produces a softly structured, sweet, and delicate coffee unlike most Ethiopian naturals. Distinctive and refined, this beautiful lot is an absolute must-try.
About Ethiopian Coffee
The Ethiopian Coffee Exchange (ECX) was founded in 2007. According to ECX rules, most coffees grown in the country had to be bulked together in regional grades. As a result, individual farmers were unable to market their coffee separately.
Following significant pressure from specialty coffee farmers, change came in 2017 when the ECX began allowing farmers to sell their mico-lots individually. As a result, Mohammed was finally able to process and sell his own coffee.
This small but extraordinarily significant shift has allowed us to taste more of these wonderful coffees from dedicated farmers like Mohammed. We’re really excited to be offering this coffee for the very first time and are looking forward to many future years of trade with Mohammed.

Pricing Explained
FOB (Free on Board)
This is the FOB (Free On Board) price: the price paid to the exporter before international shipping, and which does not include shipping costs, weight loss (around 17%), storage and other charges. Ultimately, the FOB price represents the figure that stays in the coffee's country of origin, benefiting its producer, community, and beyond.
We publish FOB in both $USD/lb, the standard used for international coffee pricing, as well as $AUD/kg to make the price easier for Australian customers to understand.
Farm Gate Price
The Farm Gate price is the raw price paid directly to the producer, and paid in the local currency for parchment coffee. The coffee is then milled and sorted before being placed in bags, ready for shipping. In some cases, the Farm Gate price is marked as N/A. This is typically when we purchase the coffee through a co-op or a collective of producers.
Market Price
This is the global commodity coffee price at the time of purchase (known as the 'C Market') which is commonly used as a benchmark for coffee prices around the world.
Fairtrade Price
The Fairtrade price is the minimum set by Fairtrade International for certified coffee. It's a safety net when the market price is low, but it isn't designed to reward coffee producers for the quality of their coffee. We include it because it's a recognised industry benchmark, against which to compare the price that we paid.
