PRICING EXPLAINED
*This is the FOB (Free On Board) price: the price paid to the exporter before shipping, and which does not include shipping costs, weight loss (around 17%), storage and other charges. Ultimately, the FOB price represents the $ figure that stays in the coffee's country of origin, benefiting its producer, community, and beyond.
^This is the 'raw' price paid directly to the producer, and paid in the local currency for parchment coffee. The coffee is then milled and sorted before being placed in bags, ready for shipping.
ABOUT
This coffee was produced by Bekele Yutute who grows and processes coffee on his 3.9-hectare farm, Denbi. Located in the woreda district of Daye in Ethiopia’s Southern Nationalities, Nations, and People’s Region, Denbi is privately owned-and-operated by Bekele’s family.
Being able to purchase a lot from a single producer in Ethiopia is a rare and incredibly special privilege. Most farmers are unable to connect to buyers directly and must sell their cherries at local washing stations where they’re combined with other farmers’ lots, losing transparency and distinction.
To access support to process and market his coffee separately, Bekele joined the Lalisaa Project, an initiative aiming to provide opportunity and resources to smallholder farmers in Ethiopia and connect them to overseas buyers. Through its specialist education programs, the Lalisaa Project helps farmers improve both practices and overall quality, thus supporting better financial outcomes in both the short and longer term.
