Two rivers and a provincial border separate the remote hill of Ninga from Bukeye Washing Station. With no access to electricity and little in the way of supplies, even Coca Cola is rare. Coffee trees line every path and doorstep, quietly waiting through each wave of conflict.
Ninga is home to more than 700 smallholder farmers who grow Red Bourbon coffee at altitudes between 1800 and 2000 MASL. The terrain is steep, and many farmers walk for several hours to reach Bukeye Washing Station. When Long Miles Coffee built Bukeye in 2013, it became a turning point. Farmers travelled from distant hills, drawn by the promise of fair prices, honest scales, and a supportive, transparent coffee community. That first harvest, the station received far more cherries than anyone had expected.
This particular lot was harvested in December 2024 and processed naturally with great care. After the ripe cherries were delivered to Bukeye, they were floated to remove defects, then dried slowly in their skins for around 25 to 30 days. Over this time, they transformed from bright red to a deep, prune-like purple. The result is a bold and fruit-driven cup with rich blackberry flavours, juicy pomegranate notes, and a soft rooibos tea finish.
This is Rumble’s first year working with Long Miles Coffee and export partner Osito. The lot size is just 180 kilograms and scored 87 on the cupping table. Beyond its flavour profile, this coffee carries the story of resilience, connection and the strength of community. We are proud to share Ninga with you.
