Rwanda Nyamagabe
Our latest single origin espresso, Rwanda Nyamagabe. Expect creamy milk chocolate and orange with a hint of delicious, juicy green apple.
This mouthwateringly delicious, 100% Red Bourbon lot was grown by independent smallholder producers in the high hills of Rwanda. Established in 2007, Remera washing station is located in the Kigoma Sector of Huye District within the country’s rugged Southern Province.
REMERA WASHING STATION
Remera is the largest and busiest washing station operated by our origin partner, Buf Coffee. Typically, farms in the area surrounding Remera are very small, averaging around a quarter of a hectare (or 300-600 trees). Here, most farms are situated between 1750 and 2100 MASL. The high elevation of this area allows coffee cherries to ripen slowly, resulting in a delicious, complex and sweet flavour profile.
RWANDAN COFFEE
In Rwanda, coffee is often grown as a cash crop alongside subsistence food crops like maize, beans and sorghum and some livestock like goats and chickens. Cows are also an important asset to a farming family. Besides having practical advantages – like providing milk and yoghurt to feed the family, producing excellent manure for the coffee farms, and being an opportunity for additional income – cows are also a traditional symbol of wealth and status in Rwanda.

PRICING EXPLAINED
*This is the FOB (Free On Board) price: the price paid to the exporter before shipping, and which does not include shipping costs, weight loss (around 17%), storage and other charges. Ultimately, the FOB price represents the $ figure that stays in the coffee's country of origin, benefiting its producer, community, and beyond.
^This is the 'raw' price paid directly to the producer, and paid in the local currency for parchment coffee. The coffee is then milled and sorted before being placed in bags, ready for shipping.
