JORGE VERGARA
After a visit from a travelling coffee roaster in 2016, Jorge and his wife Narividad were deeply inspired and sought out to increase their knowledge of specialty coffee. Through exporter/importer Caravela’s program PECA, Jorge and Narividad were provided with repeated visits from their local technician who helped implement news processing methods designed to improve the harvest quality.
SEÑOR DE HUANCA
Since making these adjustments on the farm, the family’s income has risen thus allowing Jorge and Narividad to make improvements to their house and lifestyle.
At around 1900 MASL, the main varietal grown on the farm is Typica which withstood the leaf rust outbreak in the area in 2014, alongside some Bourbon plants. Jorge also owns a small cocoa farm nearby that he maintains during the non-coffee season.

PRICING EXPLAINED
*This is the FOB (Free On Board) price: the price paid to the exporter before shipping, and which does not include shipping costs, weight loss (around 17%), storage and other charges. Ultimately, the FOB price represents the $ figure that stays in the coffee's country of origin, benefiting its producer, community, and beyond.
^This is the 'raw' price paid directly to the producer, and paid in the local currency for parchment coffee. The coffee is then milled and sorted before being placed in bags, ready for shipping.
