This transparency report shares the sourcing and pricing information behind our Kenya Karimikui coffee. As part of Rumble Coffee's Transparency Project, we publish what we paid for every coffee we sell, as well as key information about the producer or producer group, farm, and the coffee itself.
About the Karimikui Factory
Karimikui Factory is one of three wet mills belonging to the renowned Rungeto Farmers' Co-operative Society in Kenya's Kirinyaga region. Around 1,400 local producers deliver ripe cherries here each harvest, contributing to coffees celebrated for their remarkable clarity and complexity. This is our first year buying from Karimikui, drawn to the co-operative's meticulous quality standards, long-standing reputation and commitment to producing coffees that truly express the distinctive character of central Kenya.
About this coffee
Every lot begins with carefully hand-selected cherries before moving through a traditional washed process that prioritises precision at every stage. After pulping, the coffee is fermented overnight, washed with fresh water, graded by density and dried slowly on raised beds for up to two weeks. Alongside exceptional processing, Rungeto continues investing in sustainability through water recycling systems and upgraded fermentation infrastructure, ensuring both coffee quality and environmental stewardship continue to improve with every harvest.

Pricing Explained
FOB (Free on Board)
This is the FOB (Free On Board) price: the price paid to the exporter before international shipping, and which does not include shipping costs, weight loss (around 17%), storage and other charges. Ultimately, the FOB price represents the figure that stays in the coffee's country of origin, benefiting its producer, community, and beyond.
We publish FOB in both $USD/lb, the standard used for international coffee pricing, as well as $AUD/kg to make the price easier for Australian customers to understand.
Farm Gate Price
The Farm Gate price is the raw price paid directly to the producer, and paid in the local currency for parchment coffee. The coffee is then milled and sorted before being placed in bags, ready for shipping. In some cases, the Farm Gate price is marked as N/A. This is typically when we purchase the coffee through a co-op or a collective of producers.
Market Price
This is the global commodity coffee price at the time of purchase (known as the 'C Market') which is commonly used as a benchmark for coffee prices around the world.
Fairtrade Price
The Fairtrade price is the minimum set by Fairtrade International for certified coffee. It's a safety net when the market price is low, but it isn't designed to reward coffee producers for the quality of their coffee. We include it because it's a recognised industry benchmark, against which to compare the price that we paid.
