Burundi Mikuba
Burundi Mikuba brings sweet notes of purple jubes, boysenberry, and a subtle lime acidity.
HEZA WASHING STATION
Reaching Heza Washing Station at 1,960 MASL is an adventure in itself, switch-backing up mountainsides and crossing hand-built log bridges. Truly remote, Heza sits among a tight-knit community of coffee farmers scattered across the surrounding hills. Meaning “beautiful place” in Kirundi, Heza lives up to its name with panoramic views and dramatic East African skies. Fresh spring water, pumped from a nearby natural source, underpins every step of coffee processing here.
Farmers deliver freshly harvested cherries daily, where they are floated and hand-sorted before entering a meticulous washed process. Cherries are pulped and fermented underwater for 36 hours, sometimes followed by traditional “footing” to remove stubborn mucilage. After rinsing, grading and soaking, parchment is pre-dried under cover, hand-sorted, then slowly dried on African raised beds for up to twenty days. Nearby Mikuba Hill, rich with crops, flowers and shade trees, provides ideal growing conditions and a vibrant farming landscape.

PRICING EXPLAINED
*This is the FOB (Free On Board) price: the price paid to the exporter before shipping, and which does not include shipping costs, weight loss (around 17%), storage and other charges. Ultimately, the FOB price represents the $ figure that stays in the coffee's country of origin, benefiting its producer, community, and beyond.
^This is the 'raw' price paid directly to the producer, and paid in the local currency for parchment coffee. The coffee is then milled and sorted before being placed in bags, ready for shipping.
