Coffee cupping is how we judge coffee in a professional sense. It’s a skill that you can learn in minutes, but takes years to master. When we launched Rumble Coffee in 2014, we started holding a regular public coffee cupping every Friday afternoon. We ran the event for many years and think it was beneficial to the local coffee industry and Melbourne cafe scene.
After a Covid hiatus, and many requests, it’s time to bring coffee cupping back to Melbourne with a regular coffee cupping/appreciation on Friday afternoons at our roastery. Check our Eventbrite page to see when the next event is on and book yourself a spot.
Entry is via donation to Grounds for Health, an organisation that supports women's health in coffee-growing communities.
Tasting coffees is just the start of coffee cupping. We also assess the wet aroma of the ground coffee, inspect the coffee beans, discuss roast profiles and finally taste the brewed coffee itself.
We cup (or taste) amazing coffee from around the world and build our sensory skills through education and analysis. Cupping is the art of assessing a coffee on its own merits. We look for sweetness, body and acidity and try to discover all the wonderful flavours inside each bean.
Each cupping session is different. We will try some of the world’s best coffee but also look at what goes into espresso blends, different flavour profiles, filter roasts and talk about what makes a specialty coffee.
As always, we focus on coffee producers and talk about the different farms and growers we work with. Coffee cupping is the best way to learn about different coffee origins and processes as you combine all your senses and build a sensory memory of each great coffee you encounter.
Our cupping sessions run for an hour and no experience is necessary. Perfect for any coffee lover or those who want to be one.
