Sustainability in a time of takeaways

In Australia alone, we throw out on average 2.7 million takeaway coffee cups every single day. Thats more than 50,000 cups every half hour that are ending up in landfill. And at the moment, with so many cafes being restricted to takeaway only, we can't even begin to imagine how much worse those statistics are getting.

Takeaway cups are the second biggest contributor to waste, coming in just after plastic bottles. This means your daily soy latte has a much greater cost than what shows on the eftpos machine. We believe in the future of the coffee industry. That's why we talk so much about transparent pricing and ensuring growers earn a proper wage. But another part of sustainability in the coffee world, is being mindful of the waste that cafes and coffee drinkers collectively produce.

We believe there's a straightforward solution to this problem of the takeaway cup. There are countless different types of reusable cups available nowadays, to suit any coffee drinkers' budget and preference. You'll feel better too, knowing that you're contributing to a waste free world. All around, a reusable coffee cup results in an improved coffee experience; For your conscience, and for the planet.

At Rumble, sustainability is a big part of what we do, and we're always looking to improve where we can. That's why we've partnered with Huskeecup, a company who've created an Australian designed coffee cup out of the coffee husk. This husk or 'chaff,' is a part of the coffee bean, which is removed during the roasting process.

The huskee reusable coffee cup is a sleek, hygienic and durable product, and best of all, it's dishwasher friendly. We love that Huskee have used organic waste material which otherwise would have ended up in the bin.

So if lockdown life has you downing the takeaway coffees (no shame here, you're in good company!), consider making this one swap that will make a world of difference to the planet!
