Living life as a full-time doctor, working Monday through Friday and constantly
scheduling visits to his patients from various regions of the country, the farm emerged as Jorge Vides true hobby. Still, Jorge’s passion for health led him to become Director of the National Hospital of Huehuetenango which, to this day, bears his name.

Not surprisingly, Jorge’s humanitarian sense extended beyond the production of his coffee. In 1980, he founded a school that still runs on the farm, named after him and authorised by
the Ministry of Education. Four years later, Anacafé (the Guatemala National Coffee Association) named him “Distinguished Coffee Grower” due to this success in production work.

In 2001, with both second and third-generation Vides family members now working on the farm,
practices evolved in order to engage a new goal: the production of specialty coffee. The farm is now run by Jorge’s daughter Elena with assistance from her son Renardo.
